Projects

I know I haven't been posting many craft projects recently, but I have been busy working on this year's Christmas Cards. I don't want to show them and ruin the surprise! Here's just a little sneak peak =)
I also have another project in the works, but again, can't spoil the surprise for the recipients.
Happy Wednesday!

Hello

I used some of the new Sizzix dies that I just bought to make this card. The "hello" is part of the Hello Kitty words. And I used the Stampin' Up texture plate for the background - not sure if you can see it very good. I like the way this card turned out, it kind of reminds me of a Hawaiian Quilt (even more so if you could see the background texture).

Tri-shutter Card

This is my first tri-shutter card. I think my folds are in the wrong place, cause now that I look at some of the others that are online, mine looks kind of different. Hmmmm. Anyway, made this for my co-worker's birthday.
I copied the dangling idea from Jenny.
Here's a different angle on the butterfly.

Hope you all have a great week!

National Zoo

We hadn't planed on going to the zoo, it was on the "maybe" list, if we had time. But one day the Metro got stopped because of some problems at another station. We were just a couple of blocks from the zoo, so we got off and headed there for the morning.

Here are some bald eagles.
Some chimps swinging around and playing.
The elephants were showing off some of their tricks for us.
These are sister lions establishing dominance. One of the zoo people said that they had just reached the mating age.
The zoo had a baby gorilla earlier this year, but she wasn't out when we were there. We got to see this one having a snack.
And of course the Pandas!

Museum of Natural History Butterfly Exhibit

This was probably one of the highlights for me - going into the live butterfly exhibit. They had over 200 butterflies flying around in this super humid exhibit. One of the larger butterflies landed on my arm, it was so amazing. After it flew off me, it landed on DH's back. When it opened its wings, it was a bright vibrant blue.
Monarch butterfly.
These guys were mating the whole time we were in there. Apparently they don't put plants in the exhibit where the butterflies like to lay their eggs, because they don't want the caterpillars in there, so they must take the butterflies out to lay their eggs elsewhere.

Washington DC trip

We went on a vacation to Washington DC last week. This was my second time out to visit our Nation's Capitol. The first time I went was over 10 years ago, before 9/11. Boy have things changed! My first trip out there, you could just walk up the front steps of a building and walk right in. Now there's security everywhere! I totally understand the reasoning, and it didn't take very long to go through security. There were also some things that weren't there the first trip, like the WWII monument and the Capitol Building Visitor Center. We tried to get a pass to visit the White House, contacted our Congressman like we were told, but still got denied. This was the first trip out for my DH and he had a blast.

This week I'll share some of my quirky pictures. In the Air and Space Museum (which we spent 3.5 hours at because my DH LOVES that kind of thing) they had the evolution of flight attendant clothing.
This display was my favorite. It was from the 60's and Air California Stewardesses wore miniskirts and go-go boots, while Northeast Airlines wore hot pants!
Tomorrow, butterflies!
